The aquaponics principle replicates natural processes found in nature. It was developed to filter water in fish farms using plants. Over the years, various formats have been developed, including aquaponics farms on several continents. See our blog.
In this garden, fish waste is pumped to the growing trays. The plants in these trays capture the waste, absorb nutrients from it, and simultaneously filter the water. The oxygenated and filtered water is then returned to the aquarium. The trays, filled with clay balls, promote the growth and maintenance of a bacteria level, which plays a role in facilitating nutrient absorption by plants.
